New Delhi: India recorded 10,229 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. The recovery rate at 98.26 per cent accounted for 11,926 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,38,49,785. The daily positivity rate stood at 1.12 per cent, less than 2 per cent for 42 consecutive days.
The number of active cases stood at 1,34,096 lowest in 523 days accounting for 0.39 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline of 1822 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.35 per cent reported a spike in deaths recording 125 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,63,655.
As Covid-19 cases balloon again in Europe, the World Health Organization called Friday for more targeted vaccination efforts to ensure the most vulnerable worldwide get the jabs. However, it disregarded the booster program and called it a ‘ scandal’. “It makes no sense to give boosters to healthy adults, or to vaccinate children, when health workers, older people and other high-risk groups around the world are still waiting for their first dose,” he was quoted as saying.
Over 112.34 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the country so far, including 30.20 lakh doses administered in the last 24 hours. As per ICMR, 9.15 lakh infected samples were tested in the last 24 hours. So far 62.46 crore samples have been tested.
According to the top health body, over 25 crore infections have been logged since the inception of the pandemic and nearly 51 lakh deaths have been observed.
