Ranchi: Non-vegetarians, especially chicken eaters, should be careful because bird flu (H5N1) or avian influenza virus infection has spread in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand. This virus has spread in the Veterinary College of Birsa Agricultural University located in Kanke. Here more than 100 chickens and about 10 quails have died due to bird flu infection. Samples of dead chickens were immediately sent to the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD) located in Bhopal for examination.

Bird flu had spread in Ranchi even in 2024

Bird flu has been confirmed by sending a letter to the Chief Secretary of Jharkhand from the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, New Delhi. Earlier, bird flu infection was confirmed in a poultry farm in Morhabadi, Ranchi in April 2024, so immediate measures were required.
