Over 100 officer cadets, including women, were commissioned into the Indian Army in a grand ceremony held at the Officers Training Academy (OTA) here on Saturday. But the passing out parade of the young officers at OTA’s prestigious Parameswaran Drill Square marked the end of their military training.

A total of 133 male officer cadets and 24 female officer cadets joined different Arms and Services of the Indian Army with values of duty, sacrifice and commitment to national service, the Defence press release said. Apart from the Indian cadets, the academy trained five male and seven female foreign officer cadets from five friendly foreign nations. The successful completion of training by India’s soldiers at OTA demonstrates how the country remains committed to international military partnership and deepening relationships amongst the allied countries.

Lieutenant General Johnson P Mathew, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff reviewed the Passing Out Parade. Meanwhile, during the event, he presented the Sword of Honour, OTA Gold Medal and other awards for outstanding cadets in training.

Lt. Gen. Mathew also commended the newly commissioned officers for their perseverance, discipline and dedication in his address to them. He charged them to dutifully practise the core military principle of ‘Selfless Service to the Nation’ and always move ahead in their professions.

Senior military officials, some proud families of the cadets, and other dignitaries such as the mayors and chief executives of the cities attended. The successful commissioning of these officers indicates the Indian Army’s determined efforts to groom professionals who will march up and down the ladder with courage and honor.
