Bhopal: Under the National Sickle Cell Eradication Mission-2047, a state-level program will be organized on World Sickle Cell Awareness Day on June 19 at the sports stadium of Gram Panchayat Talun in Barwani. Governor Mangubhai Patel, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav will attend the program. Many innovations will be launched on this occasion. These include genetic counseling awareness videos and comprehensive guidelines and modules for affected pregnant women. Panchayats that complete 100 percent screening of the targeted age group will be honored.

To mark the relevance of the day, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reposted a tweet originally shared by JP Nadda, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare. “World Sickle Cell Awareness Day is an important occasion to raise awareness about the challenges faced by those living with sickle cell disease. This day offers a platform to educate communities, promote early diagnosis, and support ongoing research”, read the tweet.

World Sickle Cell Awareness Day President’s Message

President Draupadi Murmu has praised the efforts of the Madhya Pradesh government on ‘World Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Day’. In her message, the President said that to achieve the goals of a developed India, it is very important that all the countrymen are healthy. Only healthy citizens can effectively contribute to the progress of their lives, their state and our country. She has called upon all stakeholders to work together to make India free from sickle cell anemia.

President Draupadi Murmu said that sickle cell anemia, which affects millions of people across the world, particularly affects the tribal population in India. Celebrating this day is an important step towards fighting it with determination. Many people in our tribal communities and backward areas have been suffering from sickle cell anemia for decades. To prevent the spread of the disease from one generation to the next, genetic counseling and management by identifying it through screening tests at the community level is extremely important.

The President said that the national resolve to rid India of sickle cell anaemia by the year 2047 is a visionary initiative towards eradicating this problem from its roots. Under the National Mission for the Elimination of Sickle Cell Anemia, integrated treatment centres have been set up for people affected by sickle cell anaemia, where essential medicines are made available to the patients free of cost.

President Draupadi Murmu said that the efforts being made under the National Mission for Elimination of Sickle Cell Anemia are leading to timely detection of the disease in many tribal communities at the state and national level, which is also improving treatment and quality of life. She said that only when all stakeholders work together with a sustained, dedicated and humane approach, it will be possible to eradicate this problem.

Only healthy citizens can effectively contribute to the progress of their lives, their state and our country. He urged all stakeholders to work together to make India free from sickle cell anemia.
