World Mental Health Day is celebrated every year on 10 October. The purpose of celebrating this day is to make people aware of mental health. According to WHO, it’s essential to maintain good health and give your mind a break between work. In order to keep the mind healthy, the workplace needs to be positive because an adverse work environment increases mental health issues and has a direct impact on mental health.
All government and private organizations should provide a positive workplace to their employees to enhance their mental health. Only then will there be positive changes in this direction, enabling people to move toward both mental and financial wellness and a career that supports their mental health?
Recently, Imran Khan, who is known for his roles in films like “Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na,” talked about his battle with depression. In an interview with Film Companion, he explained how he decided to put his health ahead of his acting career after experiencing mental health concerns. Recalling the difficult situations that Imran Khan had to face while transitioning from an ordinary person to a successful actor, he said, “The week before ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’ was released, nobody could have given a damn if I walked on the street; the week after it was released, suddenly there were people chasing my car.”
Resilience and Recovery
Imran made a conscious decision to step away from the spotlight. “I did my best to disappear. I did not engage via those threads,” he said. Imran prioritized his mental health over the demands of the industry to remain relevant, a decision he feels was necessary for his recovery.
Imran says he missed his acting career during this time, but his main focus was taking care of himself. “I did exactly the opposite of what you are supposed to do to stay relevant.” Yet, here we are, and here I am,” highlighting the resilience he discovered through putting his mental health first.
