Translated into ‘Day of Brave Children’, Veer Bal Diwas is a national commemoration honouring the bravery and sacrifice of the tenth Sikh guru— Guru Gobind Singh’s youngest sons. On this day, we remember the significant contribution of ten Sikh gurus and the sacrifice of the Sikhs to safeguard the honour of their nation.

Veer Bal Diwas is a poignant reminder of the unwavering courage and sacrifice of Guru Gobind Singh’s youngest sons, Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh. This national commemoration honors their martyrdom and serves as an inspiration for generations.

Prime Miniter Narendra Modi took to his social media account on X to remember Sahibzade. “Today, on Veer Baal Diwas, we remember the unparalleled bravery and sacrifice of the Sahibzades. At a young age, they stood firm in their faith and principles, inspiring generations with their courage. Their sacrifice is a shining example of valour and a commitment to one’s values. We also remember the bravery of Mata Gujri Ji and Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. May they always guide us towards building a more just and compassionate society”, wrote the Indian Prime Minister.

The backdrop of this sacrifice lies in the tumultuous period of Sikh history, marked by conflict and persecution. In 1705, the two Sahibzadas, aged nine and six respectively, were captured by the Mughal forces. They were pressured to convert to Islam, but they steadfastly refused, choosing death over abandoning their faith. Their defiance in the face of imminent death is a testament to their unwavering commitment to their beliefs and the principles of Sikhism.

The execution of these young souls shook the conscience of the time and became a symbol of resistance against tyranny. Their sacrifice, along with the martyrdom of their elder brothers in the Battle of Chamkaur, is deeply embedded in Sikh collective memory. It exemplifies the Sikh values of courage, integrity, and the willingness to stand up for justice, even at the cost of one’s life.

Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnudeo Sai also remembered the day with a post dedicated to Sahibzade.

Veer Bal Diwas is not just a commemoration of a historical event; it is a day to reflect on the values upheld by the Sahibzadas. It is a reminder of the importance of courage, sacrifice, and standing firm in one’s beliefs. By remembering their sacrifice, we pay homage to their unwavering spirit and draw inspiration from their example to face the challenges of our own times.
