Priced at Rs. 75 lakhs, a single stag beetle is one of the Priciest insects in the world. The insect is not only rare but also considered a symbol of good luck as many believe owning it can bring sudden wealth. This has added to their high market value.

Stag beetles represent a significant saproxylic assemblage in forest ecosystems. As per the London-based Natural History Museum, these insects have a lifespan of 3-7 years and weigh between 2-6 grams. The females are 30-50 mm in length while the male insect is 35-70 mm long. They are also used for medicinal purposes.

Looking at the price of a whooping Rs. 75 lakhs equivalent to owning a luxury car, these Stag beetles are found in warm tropical environments. However, they are sensitive to cold temperatures and naturally inhabit woodlands. If you really want to bring in good luck charm, look for these beetles in traditional orchards, hedgerows, and urban areas like gardens and parks, especially in areas where dead wood is found in abundance.

Why Stag Beetles Are Unique

Noted for their enlarged mandibles and male polymorphism, they are significant part of forest ecosystem. These fascinating insects have 1200 species worldwide and can be instantly recognized by males’ impressive mandibles.

Most of the time of Stag Beetle is spent underground as larvae. Interestingly, the larvae aides in decomposition and in this way it contributes to health of the forest. They use their strong jaws to break down tough fibers and so these subterranean chefs munch on decaying wood. Once they emerge as adults, the male specie’s primary focus shifts to attracting mates.
