Mahashivratri 2025: Mahashivratri festival is being celebrated with great pomp across the country today (26 February). Crowds of devotees have gathered since morning in all the major Shiva temples of the country including 12 Jyotirlingas.
Kashi Vishwanath temple in Banaras, Uttar Pradesh is open for temple visitors from 3.30 am on 26 February after Mangala Aarti. At the same time, the doors of Mahakaleshwar (Mahakal temple) in Ujjain opened at 2.30 am on Tuesday night. Mangala Aarti was performed at 4 am. For the next 44 hours, devotees will visit Lord Mahakal without permission. Mahakal temple will remain open for 44 hours continuously and Kashi Vishwanath temple will remain open for 69 hours. On Mahashivratri, even during the aarti of all four pahars, tableau darshan of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Mahadev will continue. Saptarishi and Shringar Aarti will not be held.
The first Jyotirlinga Shri Somnath Mahadev temple in Gujarat is open for devotees for 42 consecutive hours from 4 am today. A huge crowd of devotees has gathered since morning at the Jyotirlinga Baba Baidyanath temple in Deoghar, Jharkhand. 2 lakh devotees are expected to arrive. Apart from these, special arrangements have also been made for darshan at other Jyotirlingas and famous Shiva temples in other states of the country.

Tweeting on social media, Modi wrote – I extend my best wishes to all the countrymen on the holy festival of Mahashivratri dedicated to Lord Shiva.
