National Unity Day 2025: India’s National Unity Day is celebrated across the country every year on October 31st. This day is dedicated to the Iron Man, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who united India from its fragmented princely states. He was India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister. Patel is one of the great leaders and freedom fighters whose contributions, both before and after independence, are unforgettable. After independence, Sardar Patel played a crucial role in uniting the entire nation.
Also marked as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, PM Narendra Modi addressed the public during the Unity Parade held in New Delhi. He shared the video from the event on X and wrote, “Rashtriya Ekta Diwas reminds us of Sardar Patel’s unmatched dedication to national unity and integration. May the spirit of oneness continue to guide our nation”.
Significance of the Day
It is worth noting that the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, also known as Iron Man, was celebrated as National Unity Day in 2014. Its purpose is to increase awareness among citizens about national unity, integrity, and security. On this day, “Run for Unity,” essay competitions, and patriotic programs are organized in schools, colleges, government institutions, and organizations. The message of National Unity Day is “One India, Best India.”
Sardar Patel was the architect who united India.
It is worth noting that after independence, India was divided into 562 princely states. At this time, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India, with his indomitable will, political acumen, and firm leadership, merged these princely states into the Indian Union. His efforts made the integration of major princely states like Hyderabad, Junagadh, and Kashmir into India possible. He laid the foundation of the “States Reorganization Committee,” which unified India into a strong administrative structure.
