Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday clarified on Twitter that he will not be stepping down from his position. The clarification came after a day of speculation that he might resign following communal clashes in the state.
In a tweet, Singh said, “At this crucial juncture, I would like to clarify that I have no intention of resigning as the Chief Minister of Manipur. I am committed to serving the people of the state and will continue to do so.”
The clarification came after Singh met with Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Friday morning. The meeting was reportedly held to discuss the situation in the state and the possibility of Singh resigning.
Singh’s decision to stay on as CM comes after days of communal clashes in Manipur. The clashes, which broke out on June 22, have left at least 10 people dead and hundreds injured.
The clashes have been sparked by a dispute over the construction of a temple in the state. The temple is being built by a group of Kuki tribals, but some Meitei groups have objected to its construction.
The clashes have raised tensions in the state and have led to calls for Singh to resign. However, Singh has so far resisted these calls.
In his tweet, Singh said that he is “committed to maintaining peace and harmony in the state.” He also said that he is “working with the central government to find a solution to the current crisis.”
It remains to be seen whether Singh’s decision to stay on as CM will help to defuse the situation in Manipur. However, his clarification has at least put an end to the speculation about his resignation.
The clashes in Manipur are a reminder of the deep-seated communal tensions in the state. These tensions have been simmering for years, and they have erupted into violence on several occasions.
The clashes have also highlighted the need for better inter-community relations in Manipur. The state government needs to take steps to promote understanding and tolerance between different communities.
Only by addressing the root causes of the communal tensions in Manipur can the state achieve lasting peace and harmony.thumb_upthumb_downuploadGoogle itmore_vert
