Taking the helm as the President of the World Bank in June 2023, Banga created history as the first-ever Indian American to lead this esteemed international institution. His inclusion as the sole honoree from India in this year’s “Great Immigrants” list highlights his exceptional accomplishments and his positive impact on a global scale.

Banga’s career journey began in India, where he worked at Nestle India and PepsiCo for several years. He then joined Citigroup in 1996, ultimately rising to the position of CEO for the Asia-Pacific region. After moving to the United States, he bravely took on the position of president and CEO at Mastercard for an extraordinary 12-year period.
Before assuming his current role at the World Bank, Banga was vice-chairman at General Atlantic, a leading global investment firm. Additionally, Banga has served as the vice-chair of the prestigious Economic Club of New York.
