Ahmedabad: Days after a hoax bomb threat to schools in Delhi and its surrounding areas triggered widespread panic in the national capital region, several schools in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad today received threatening emails.
According to preliminary reports, at least six schools in one of the biggest cities in Gujarat received bomb threats through emails.
The crime branch teams and the bomb disposal squad have reached the schools for investigation.
DCP cyber crime branch Lavina Sinha said the email’s domain is out of India.
“Some schools in Ahmedabad have received emails threatening bomb blasts. So far, six schools have received such emails and have informed us about it. This seems to be on the lines of bomb threats received by schools in Delhi some days back,” the officer added.
Earlier this month, after nearly 200 schools received hoax emails, the Delhi Police said in its FIR that the threats were made to create mass panic and disturb public order in the national capital.
Delhi Police’s Special Cell had booked an FIR under IPC sections 505 (2) (statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes), 507 (criminal intimidation by anonymous communication), and 120 (B) (punishment of criminal conspiracy).
After extensive searching, the Delhi Police declared the threat a hoax. The police have found foreign links to the hoax emails.
Earlier this week, the Delhi Police approached Russian mailing service company Mail.ru via Interpol to trace the exact source of the emails. The police had also urged CBI to seek information through Interpol on the email threats.
