At present, a mobile number is required to open a WhatsApp account on a smartphone. However, WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature that will allow users to create accounts using their email addresses instead. This is a significant development, as it will make it easier for people to use WhatsApp on a variety of devices, including tablets and computers.

There are several benefits to allowing users to create WhatsApp accounts with email addresses. First, it will make it easier for people to use the app on multiple devices. For example, a user could create an account using their email address on their phone and then use the same account on their tablet or computer.

Second, allowing users to create WhatsApp accounts with email addresses would make it easier for people to use it in countries where mobile phone numbers are expensive or difficult to obtain. For example, in some countries, mobile phone numbers are only available to people who have signed a contract with a mobile service provider. This can make it difficult or expensive for people to use the app, especially if they are only using it occasionally.

Third, allowing users to create WhatsApp accounts with email addresses would improve privacy. Currently, WhatsApp requires users to provide their phone numbers when they create an account. This information is then used to identify the user and connect them with their contacts. However, if users are able to create accounts with email addresses, they will no longer need to provide their phone numbers. This will improve the privacy of WhatsApp users, as it will make it more difficult for people to track their online activity.

WhatsApp has not yet announced when the new feature will be released, but it is expected to be available in the near future. Once the feature is released, users will be able to create accounts using their email addresses by following these steps:

  1. Open the WhatsApp app on your smartphone.
  2. Tap on the “Create Account” button.
  3. Select the “Email Address” option.
  4. Enter your email address and tap on the “Next” button.
  5. Verify your email address by entering the code that is sent to your inbox.
  6. Create a username and profile picture for your WhatsApp account.
  7. Tap on the “Done” button to complete the process.

Once you have created a WhatsApp account using your email address, you will be able to use it to send and receive messages on all of your devices. You will also be able to make and receive video and voice calls.

The ability to create accounts with email addresses will also be beneficial for businesses. Businesses can use the app to communicate with their customers and provide them with support. However, currently, businesses need to have a mobile phone number in order to create a WhatsApp account.
