Indian actor Urvashi Rautela again grabbed the attention when she attended the Cannes Film Festival 2025 and made a daring fashion statement on the opening ceremony and on the premiere of the French movie Partir un jour (Leave one Day). Being popular for her eccentric and eye-catching red carpet looks, Rautela featured a strapless dress exploding with colorful blue, red, and yellow tones. Her appearance was enhanced by a pair of matching tiaras, and a parrot-shaped clutch made the thunder steal the show.
The wacky handbag was immediately picked up by the fashion watchdog Diet Sabya as a Judith Leiber creation, and it is being reported that it comes with a price tag of $5,495 (approximately ₹4.68 lakh). Although her colorful outfit earned her mixed reactions over the internet, the novelty clutch was what got her talking. Social media followers appreciated the originality of her accessory, but some were not fond of the general look as it was too over-the-top.
But Rautela’s red carpet moment didn’t quite work out according to plan. A video that made its way online after it went viral in Cannes‘ social media spoke volumes about the actress who took her time hanging around the iconic Cannes staircase, and much longer than usual, as the other guests made way past her. Later on, a festival usher was noticed walking up to her and politely asking her to proceed, causing suspicion that she was asked to clear off from this place.
This moment promptly sparked conversations on social media. When some supported her for her “camp” choice of clothing and also complimented her for her confidence, others found the whole thing a little awkward. “Was it a satire on camp?” one of the users wrote, and another teasingly said, “She was hogging the red carpet and asked to leave”.
Despite the controversies, the global attention was once again caught by the name of Urvashi Rautela, either for her fashion, or for her accessories, or for the viral moment of the red carpet that has become a memorable highlight for Cannes 2025.
