The Officer Who Investigated Commonwealth Games Scam To Now Investigate Aryan Khan Drug Case

New Delhi: Until now, the Aryan Khan issue had been handled by Sameer Wankhede, who had been removed after Maharashtra cabinet minister Nawab Malik levelled a number of allegations against him.

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has transferred six cases from Mumbai Zone to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by IPS officer Sanjay Kumar Singh, including the drug case against Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan. Sanjay Kumar Singh is an Odisha IPS (Indian Police Service) cadre officer from the 1996 batch. He has worked with the Odisha Police Department and the Central Bureau of Investigation in various capacities (CBI).

The NCB removed Wankhede on Friday, a week after the agency opened an investigation into charges of bribery and extortion against him. Wankhede clarified after his departure that he had not been removed from the investigation into these incidents. Mr Wankhede said, “I have not been removed from the investigation. It was my writ petition in court that the matter be probed by a central agency. So the Aryan (Khan) case and Sameer Khan case are being probed by the Delhi NCB’s special investigation team. It’s a coordination between NCB teams of Delhi and Mumbai.”

In a statement issued by Mr Singh, the NCB also stated that no officers have been removed from their current positions. The NCB said in the statement, “They will continue to assist the operations branch investigation as required until any specific orders are issued to the contrary. It is reiterated that the NCB functions across India as a single integrated agency.”
