John Abraham’s latest film, The Diplomat, is showing strong box office performance, earning Rs 4.5 crore on its second day – a 12.5 per cent increase from its opening, according to industry sources.
Reacting on opening day response of audience, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh in a post on X stated, “Released with minimal buzz, #TheDiplomat benefitted from the #Holi holiday on Friday, with multiplexes in key centres recording good occupancy post-4 pm.”
The film, which debuted with Rs 4 crore on March 14, coincided with the Holi festival, which may have contributed to its initial turnout of just 20.45 per cent occupancy. However, with the weekend ahead, trade analysts expect a further boost in collections.
Directed by Shivam Nair, The Diplomat is a political thriller that has garnered positive word-of-mouth. If the trend continues, it could prove to be one of Abraham’s stronger box office performers in recent years.
The movie raked in ₹4.5 crore net on Day 2 after opening with ₹4 crore net at the domestic box office. This brings India box office earnings total to ₹8.5 crore net. Meanwhile, the filmmakers claimed that the movie minted ₹4.03 crore net in India on Day 1.
Meanwhile, Vicky Kaushal’s historical epic, Chhaava, is still going strong at the box office, even after a month in theaters. The film has seen a remarkable 60% hike in collections on its 30th day, earning Rs 5.8 crore and reaching a total of Rs 554.87 crore in India.
