Mumbai: John Abraham’s latest thriller The Diplomat ended its first week of theatrical run with a domestic collection of Rs 19.10 crore nett, according to industry data-tracking portal.

Directed by Shivam Nair, the film opened with decent numbers, showing growth during the debut weekend. However, it witnessed a dip in weekday collections.

Bollywood actor John Abraham revealed that several OTT platforms rejected his latest film, The Diplomat, as the studio producing it lacked faith in its potential. However, according to John, having zero expectations for the film turned out to be its biggest advantage.

Speaking to Pinkvilla, John said, “The loss of faith happens from the studio. So when a studio sees a film, it goes and does a round of OTTs because a studio may want to mitigate the risk by sending it to an OTT channel. Some OTT channels refused The Diplomat because they didn’t find it great. They didn’t find it good… They rejected the film; they threw it out.”

The Diplomat is based on real-life events and features John in the role of diplomat JP Singh. It also stars Sadia Khateeb in the lead role. The film is produced by John’s JA Entertainment along with T-Series, Vipul D. Shah, Ashwin Varde, Rajesh Bahl of Wakaoo Films, Sameer Dixit and Jatish Varma of Fortune Pictures, and Rakesh Dang of Seeta Films.
