Although Thamma slightly dropped at the box office throughout the weekdays, the Maddock Films horror-comedy is still galloping towards the 100 crore mark all over the globe. Directed by Rashmika Mandanna and Ayushmann Khurrana, the vampire movie started off well in the domestic market and gained momentum in the foreign markets during Thursday and Friday and improved its chances of registering a powerful lifetime collection.
Thamma grossed 65.15 crore net (78.20 crore gross) on the first four days in India. The movie began with a fantastic 24 crore opening on Diwali but, as anticipated, there was a steady decrease in collections which was experienced throughout the weekdays. Nevertheless, the movie was able to restrict the number to 25 percent or lower each day with the net collection of 9.55 crore on Friday. This performance is also indicative of how the film has been able to maintain the interest of the audience despite the usual slowdowns of the weekdays.
In foreign countries, the situation was a bit different. The movie began humbly in other parts of the world because Diwali is not a popular holiday in most of the major foreign markets. Nevertheless, on the weekend, the performance of Thamma improved substantially. The film has since grossed almost 1.6 million dollars in foreign lands in four days and will reach the 3 million mark by end of the first week.
Adding both domestic and foreign incomes, Thamma has collected a great amount of ₹93 crore throughout the four days worldwide. The film surpassed the lifetime earnings of the previous romantic comedy of Maddock Films, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, which concluded its termination at ₹89 crore abroad. The movie has a long way to go to reach the 100 crore mark yet but this is likely to occur shortly as it cements its place as one of the first hits of the festive season.
The consistent business in India and abroad of Thamma is indicative of the increasing popularity of horror-comedies within mainstream Bollywood cinema and the huge box office attraction of stars.
