The Telugu mythological superhero film, HanuMan, has surpassed Mahesh Babu’s blockbuster, Guntur Kaaram, in daily box office collections, despite its humble beginnings. Opening to just one-fifth of Guntur Kaaram’s initial day earnings, HanuMan’s success stems from positive word-of-mouth, overcoming budget constraints, lack of major stars, and a young director.
On its fifth day, the film earned Rs 12.75 crore, marking an improvement from its Rs 8 crore opening. Monday witnessed a slight dip to Rs 15 crore, a mere 5% decline from Sunday’s Rs 16 crore. With an overall domestic collection of Rs 68 crore, HanuMan eyes the Rs 100 crore milestone domestically by Friday or Saturday. Directed by Prashanth Varma and starring Teja Sajja, the Telugu version reported 68% occupancy on day five, with evening and night shows leading at 70%. Hyderabad and Vijayawada recorded over 90% occupancy, while the Hindi version struggled with a 12% occupancy, hinting at a slow crossover. In contrast, Guntur Kaaram earned Rs 11 crore on day five, bringing its domestic total to Rs 94 crore.
Globally, HanuMan has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark, reaching Rs 112 crore with Tuesday’s domestic collections. Trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan confirmed this milestone. The film made $2.3 million (Rs 19 crore) in its opening US weekend from 430 screens, prompting an increase in screen count. A promising sequel, “Jai Hanuman,” is expected in 2025.
HanuMan’s success extends beyond borders, with impressive global figures and a strong showing in the US market. The film’s strategic growth and positive audience reception set the stage for a sequel, indicating a bright future for this mythological superhero franchise.
