Superman debuted with Rs. 29 crore (USD 3.40 million) approx at the Indian box office during its first weekend. The weekend ranks as the third biggest ever for a DC film, behind Batman v Superman (Rs. 34 crore) and Aquaman (Rs. 30 crore). However, both those films included previews, in terms of the pure Friday-Saturday-Sunday frame, Superman actually tops the list. It has also become the highest-opening solo Superman film of all time, beating the mark set by Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel 12 years ago.

James Gunn’s Superman has collected $122 million to lead the weekend box office charts in the United States and Canada, a strong domestic debut. Internationally, ‘Superman’ earned an additional $95 million, contributing to its strong worldwide debut.

Superman is now the best-opening solo Superman film ever. Its $217-million mark is a substantial improvement on the $190 million that Zack Snyder’s Henry Cavill-starrer Man of Steel had managed in its opening weekend back in 2013.

Directed by James Gunn, ‘Superman’ also features Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and supporting performances by Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced. The film officially launches Gunn’s reimagined DC Universe, kicking off ‘Chapter One: Gods and Monsters’.
