The daughter of the Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, Suhana Khan, has been reported to be caught in the middle of a legal tangle in the alleged acquisition of agricultural land in Alibaug. It has been reported that Suhana bought two plots in 2023 and 2024, totalling approximately 22 crore, via Deja Vu Farm Private Limited, which is reportedly owned by the mother and sister-in-law of Gauri Khan.

One of these contentious plots is in Thal village, Alibaug, and supposedly acquired by three sisters, Anjali, Rekha and Priya, heirs of their parents. According to the official record, Suhana was required to pay a stamp duty of 77.46 lakh at the registration. But, there was controversy when the records showed Suhana as a “farmer”, and this was questionable because the land was initially given by the government to be used as a farm.

The government has since intervened and started digging into the case. The Alibaug Tehsildar has been instructed by the resident Deputy Collector Sandesh Shirke to provide a fair report on the deal. The enquiry is trying to understand whether the buying contravened regulations that limit non-farmers from acquiring agricultural land.

It is not the first occasion when the Alibaug holdings belonging to the Khan family are under scrutiny. In 2018, the Income Tax Department provisional attached the bungalow of Alibaug, owned by Deja Vu Farms Pvt. Ltd., where Shah Rukh Khan resides, as it was suspected that the agricultural property was used as a personal farmhouse. That probe was connected with so-called benami dealings and potential land acquisition law breaches.

Suhana, a filmmaker who is on the verge of making her big theatrical debut in King, has not made any statement to address the controversy. The issue has, however, generated much publicity, as it has brought together Bollywood glamour with the ancient discussions about the misuse and acquisition of agricultural land in Maharashtra.
