Mumbai: The spy thriller Ulajh is fizzling out of cinema halls and the audience’s memory within six days of its release. The film, starring Janhvi Kapoor, Adil Hussain, Gulshan Devaiah, Roshan Mathew, and Rajesh Tailang, is barely attracting any footfalls at the theatres.
According to industry reports, Ulajh’s box office collection fell further on Wednesday, August 7. It could only earn Rs 60 lakh, bringing its total earnings to Rs 6.80 crore. The film had an overall Hindi occupancy of 10.75 per cent.
Ulajh” Box Office Day 5: Janhvi Kapoor’s Film Earns ₹65 Lakh
The fate of the female protagonist in Ulajh, an espionage thriller directed and co-written by Sudarshan Saria, is not too unlike the film’s plot. It is a tangle that goes from bad to worse. It is difficult at times to fathom what on earth is going on with and around the lady, and in the film until a lot of murky water is under the bridge and everything is in grave danger of being drowned.
A degree of obfuscation may not be out of place in a movie that is dependent on mystery, intrigue and red herrings for effect but the film’s struggle for clarity and pace is never-ending as the diplomat-heroine, caught in a career-threatening bind in London, fights corporate blackmail and an assassination conspiracy.
On the other hand, Ajay Devgn and Tabu’s romantic drama, Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, which was released on the same day as Ulajh, is also struggling to survive in the theatres. It earned Rs 75 lakh at the box office on Wednesday. After six days, its earnings stand at Rs 9.45 crore. It is likely to touch the Rs 10 crore mark on its seventh day in the cinema halls.
