If reports are to be believed, the War director has been replaced. And another surprising news we come across is a new actor being roped in for the sequel. The Brahmastra chief- Ayan Mukherji is said to have replaced Siddharth Anand for directing War 2. And South superstar, RRR fame Jr NTR is said to have joined the YRF Spy Universe.
Ayan on Tuesday announced that he has taken over the director’s chair from Sidharth Anand in a post that read, “The Universe has presented me with a very special opportunity recently a very special movie to step into and direct! What the movie is… More on that when the time is right. An opportunity that challenges me and terribly excites me… one where I will learn, be inspired, and where I will grow! So, I have decided to take it up.”
Movie critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote, “IT’S OFFICIAL… HRITHIK – JR NTR IN ‘WAR 2’… #YRF pulls off a casting coup… #HrithikRoshan and #JrNTR will share screen space for the first time in #War2… #AyanMukerji directs. #YRFSpyUniverse.”
With the charismatic global star on board, fans can expect a ‘battle of wits’ and an intense showdown on the big screen. Reports indicate that the RRR star will be seen as an antagonist and will be facing off the greek god. However, there has been no confirmation from the actor’s side nor from the production house Yash Raj Films (YRF).
War 2 will be the sixth film in the YRF spy universe after Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Pathaan, and Tiger 3. If the grapevine is to be believed, a Tiger Vs Pathaan is also on the cards. Tiger 3 is slated to be released in November. The YRF Spy Universe brings three franchises headlined by leading stars Salman Khan, Shahrukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan under one Umbrealla.
Besides ‘WAR 2’, Mukerji is also working on the two-part follow-up to his 2022 hit ‘Brahmastra Part One: Shiva’, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt which will hit screens in 2026 and 2027
