MUMBAI: Aamir Khan’s latest film, “Sitaare Zameen Par,” has proven its mettle at the box office, officially crossing the coveted ₹100 crore mark despite facing stiff competition from new releases. The film, a thematic follow-up to his 2007 blockbuster “Taare Zameen Par,” witnessed a significant jump in its Day 9 collection, solidifying its position as a commercial success.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, “Sitaare Zameen Par” collected an impressive ₹12.75 crore on its second Saturday (Day 9), almost doubling its Friday earnings of ₹6.65 crore. This surge pushed its total domestic net collection to a remarkable ₹108.30 crore within nine days of its release.

The film’s performance is particularly noteworthy given the simultaneous release of other major titles, including Kajol’s horror-thriller “Maa” and Vishnu Manchu’s mythological epic “Kannappa.” While “Maa” has shown a decent run, collecting approximately ₹11.19 crore in its first two days, and “Kannappa” has also garnered attention, especially in the Telugu market with a two-day total of around ₹16.35 crore, “Sitaare Zameen Par” has managed to outshine them with its consistent upward trend.

Directed by RS Prasanna, “Sitaare Zameen Par” stars Aamir Khan as a basketball coach who trains a team of neurodivergent adults, exploring themes of acceptance and human potential. The film’s strong word-of-mouth appears to be a major factor in its sustained success, attracting audiences even in a crowded release window. This robust performance marks a significant comeback for Aamir Khan at the box office and reinforces the power of compelling storytelling.
