Mumbai: The future of Farhan Akhtar’s highly anticipated Don 3 might be taking a dramatic twist with news of possible Shah Rukh Khan rejoining the popular franchise as a revival of the original Don. This happens months following the reported departure of actor Ranveer Singh from the project, which casts doubts on the future of the movie after several resignations.
In December, a few months after Ranveer Singh’s film Dhurandhar became a blockbuster, it was reported that the actor left Don 3 to concentrate on his next film, Pralay. Although there were initial conjectures that he quit because of his changing priorities at work, there were later reports that Ranveer and the director, Farhan Akhtar, were failing because of artistic differences. The doubt among the project only increased when the lead actress, Kiara Advani, and antagonist Vikrant Massey also stepped down, which created rumours that the third part of Don could be put on hold.
As of now, however, a report by sources indicates that Shah Rukh Khan, who was the star of both Don (2006) and Don 2 (2011), is now willing to go back to the franchise, but subject to a major condition. The superstar is said to be eager to play the role again in the event that eminent filmmaker Atlee who directed the blockbuster film Jawan featuring SRK (2023) is invited to direct Don 3.
According to the report, Shah Rukh Khan has been keen on teaming up with Atlee once again after the huge success of Jawan, which contributed to the facilitation of the first National Award that the actor received in his lifetime. SRK is reported to have placed his faith in the vision by the director to introduce him in a strong and memorable avatar, befitting of bringing back the high-rated Don series.
In the event of the development coming to fruition, this may be a massive change to Don 3, which is also said to have Kriti Sanon in the female lead.
In the meantime, Shah Rukh Khan is also going to work on his next action thriller, King, which is going to be directed by Siddharth Anand. It has an impressive star cast led by Suhana Khan in her maiden performance, Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan, Arshad Warsi and Anil Kapoor.
