Mumbai: While Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s film got mixed reviews from critics, audiences didn’t turn up in theatres. The mythos-fantasy drama had left fans intrigued and has not converted into box office numbers. The film has earned a disappointing start of Rs. 1.5 crores on day 2 with a total collection of Rs. 5 crores in two days.
Given most states were celebrating New Year on Saturday, it had an overall Telugu occupancy of 20.59% on Saturday and 8.35% in Hindi. Samantha tweeted a review of her movie on her official Twitter account wherein an audience from Punjab lived her movie.
Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s last movie Pushpa netted Rs. 44 crores in India and a gross of Rs 51 crores on its opening day. The movie set a pandemic record on day one. Including premieres, the film grossed $850,000 in the United States and obtained a worldwide gross of Rs 74 crores on its first day. The South Indian actress is the recipient of several accolades and is one of the highest paid south-Indian actresses. Shakuntalam is a high-budget period drama, a heartwarming love story between King Dhusyantha and Shakuntala, who face hardships due to the curse of Dhurvasa Muni. Mani Sharma composed the music for the film and Gunaa Teamworks and Sri Venkateshwara Creations produced it.
