Having made history at the box office, Saiyaara, with Mohit Suri, will enjoy its worldwide streaming debut on Netflix. The movie, led by first-time actors Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, will hit the platform a couple of months after its theatrical release, starting Friday, September 12. Netflix also verified that the romantic blockbuster will be offered in 190 countries, and international viewers will have an opportunity to enjoy the movie that has attracted millions to theatres.
Saiyaara has already established its name in history as the highest-grossing romantic movie in Indian cinema and also as the highest-grossing debutant-led movie in the history of Indian cinema. It has a fantastic 329 crore net in India, and it has since grossed up to 570 crore globally, ousting even a few of the biggest Bollywood hits, like Ek Tha Tiger.
Director Mohit Suri was excited about the OTT release of the film. He said, “Saiyaara will always remain very close to me, and the reception that the film received in theatres all over the world was amazing. At this time when it is starting streaming on Netflix, I am excited that more people will get to know about the love story of Krish and Vaani. Love stories are universal and I hope that there are hearts everywhere Saiyaara reaches.”
The movie is based on an impulsive singer Krish (Ahaan Panday), who falls in love with Vaani (Aneet Padda), a journalist turned songwriter. Their love story has a heartbreaking twist when Vaani is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s, which puts their relationship to the test in more emotional terms. The story resonated with the audience and not just because of its moving plot but also because of its powerful acting and heartfelt music.
The soundtrack, especially the title song Saiyaara, was a global hit, reaching the top 10 of the chart of Billboard Hot 200 and taking control of the Indian streaming services. As it goes to Netflix, the movie will get a much bigger international audience, allowing it to continue its legacy as a contemporary love story.
