Bengaluru: While Bollywood actor and heartthrob Ranveer Singh is raking up box office records for his blockbuster action thriller Dhurandhar: The Revenge, he continues to face a legal crisis arising out of his promotional tour of the film Kantara. The case against him regarding his mimicry has now come to an important stage at the court.
As per the latest report, Ranveer Singh appeared in court on Friday to answer a petition claiming that his act was highly offensive to the sentiments of the community members. The reason behind the entire controversy lies in the performance by Ranveer Singh during a show where he mimicked the famous ‘Varaha Roopam’ sequence enacted by the star of Kantara. Although he performed a brilliant act, many were offended due to his imitation of the depiction of Chamundi Devi and Bhoota Kola culture.
This step towards solving the issue is being seen as a significant one because the legal representatives of Singh have conveyed to the bench that he has agreed to give a fresh affidavit expressing remorse for his action. The previous statement made by him was found to be inadequate and lacked understanding regarding the significance of the depiction. His lawyers pointed out that their client reveres the cultural traditions of Karnataka to the extreme degree and never wanted to disturb the harmony of the society nor offend anyone.
The court is considering the new development in this context and appreciates the intention of the actor to show sincerity through a more “sincere and comprehensive” expression of regret over the depiction of the divine figure. In any case, the matter will go on pending until the next date of hearing. Meanwhile, the film fraternity continues to keep its eyes peeled on proceedings as Singh enjoys great reputation in the industry after Dhurandhar.
