Podcaster and founder of the popular YouTube channel Beer Biceps, Ranveer Allahbadia, approached the Supreme Court on Friday seeking consolidation of multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) filed against him over alleged obscene comments made during his guest appearance on the YouTube show India’s Got Latent.
Speaking on behalf of Allahbadia, senior attorney Abhinav Chandrachud brought up the issue with Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna and asked for an urgent hearing. Chandrachud emphasized that Article 32 of the Constitution had been used to bring the plea.
A hearing date has already been set, according to CJI Khanna. CJI Khanna repeated that he did not allow oral mentioning when Chandrachud voiced fears about a potential arrest by the Assam Police. Allahbadia has asked for protection from arrest in the petition.
Samay Raina, comedian and presenter of India’s Got Latent, is also being investigated. In Assam and Mumbai, respectively, at least two formal complaints have been filed against Allahbadia and Raina. After the controversy over Allahbadia’s comments, a squad from the Mumbai Police visited his home and summoned them for interrogation.
A complaint was filed on Thursday against the organizers of India’s Got Talent, comedian Samay Raina, social media star Apoorva Makhija, and Allahbadia.
Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, announced on February 11 that YouTubers and social media influencers Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija, Allahbadia Raina, and others have been charged by the Guwahati Police with spreading obscenity and participating in obscene and sexually explicit conversations on India’s Got Latent. “The Guwahati Crime Branch has registered the case under Cyber PS case no. 03/2025, invoking Sections 79, 95, 294, and 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with Section 67 of the IT Act, 2000; Sections 4 and 7 of the Cinematograph Act, 1952; and Sections 4 and 6 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986. Investigation is currently underway,” he said in a post on X.
