On its 12th day in theaters, the Ranbir Kapoor-led film “Animal” experienced a marginal dip in box office earnings. Industry reports indicate a collection of approximately Rs 13 crore on its second Tuesday, following a Monday haul of Rs 13.8 crore. Notably, the movie secured the highest second-weekend earnings in Hindi cinema history, amassing Rs 87 crore in total. As of the twelfth day, “Animal” has raked in Rs 458 crore in India.
The film’s box office performance has been staggering, with strong indications that it will surpass the Rs 500 crore mark domestically by the weekend. This marks “Animal” as the fourth Hindi film of the year to achieve this milestone, following “Pathaan,” “Gadar 2,” and “Jawan.” With “Dunki” and “Salaar” set to hit theaters on December 21 and 22, respectively, this weekend represents the film’s last significant opportunity to shine.
Globally, “Animal” has amassed a substantial collection, standing at a minimum of Rs 750 crore, approximately Rs 250-300 crore behind the records set by “Pathaan” and “Jawan.” While it ranks as the third-highest-grossing Indian film of the year, trailing “Pathaan” and “Jawan,” both surpassing the Rs 1000 crore mark globally, “Animal” is the largest A-rated movie in history and a career-defining success for Ranbir Kapoor, surpassing his previous top-grosser, 2018’s “Sanju,” which earned around Rs 590 crore worldwide.
Despite facing off against Meghna Gulzar’s war biopic “Sam Bahadur” at the box office, enduring an A rating, and sporting an unusually extended runtime, “Animal” has proven to be a hit across diverse audience segments. However, it has not been without controversy, drawing criticism for its portrayal of toxic masculinity and the glorification of misogynistic behavior. The star-studded cast, including Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, and Triptii Dimri, has contributed to the film’s success. “Animal” is poised to become the third Hindi film of the year to surpass the $100 million global mark. As a noteworthy development, it will soon face competition from Rajkumar Hirani’s “Dunki,” setting the stage for an intriguing clash at the box office.
