Starring Riteish Deshmukh, Raja Shivaji has already created a tremendous box office buzz following its much anticipated release. With an opening based on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the historical drama opened to massive buzz, and registered one of the biggest openings ever in the history of the Marathi film industry.
The movie however experienced a minor drop in collections on its second day. The film had earned 11.35 crore on opening day and on the second day, the film earned 10.55 crore. Although there was marginal decline, overall performance is impressive with the total India gross passing about 23.77 crore and net collections being about 21.90 crore within two days of release alone.
The movie competed with Ek Din, with Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi as the main actors. The collision did not, however, stop in any way the impulse of Raja Shivaji, since the film that opposed him failed to attract the people.
Regional performance Raja Shivaji has recorded good traction in both the Marathi and the Hindi market. The film received around ₹5.73 crore through the Marathi screenings, and 2.97 crore through its Hindi version, which shows that it has a wider appeal than its core audience.
Having a good word-of-mouth and strong early numbers, all now awaits its Sunday performance to see whether it can attain upward momentum once again and further strengthen its box office performance in the coming days.
