Earlier this week, Pakistani television actor Humaira Asghar Ali was found dead in her apartment in Karachi, but investigators are reporting so far that they now believe she in fact died close to nine months earlier, in October 2024. Police in Karachi, Pakistan, are investigating the case more deeply after a decomposed body of a woman was found on Tuesday, which is rather shocking.
According to Dr. Summaiya Syed, Police Surgeon, Karachi, whose body has been recovered by police, the condition in which the body has been recovered is already in a very advanced state of decomposition. She carried out the post-mortem examination and established that Humaira was probably dead for a good sum of months before her body was found.
The sequence of events was confirmed by Deputy Inspector General of Police Syed Asad Raza, who cited that the most recent engagement of Humaira’s phone, based on Call Detail Records (CDR), had occurred in October 2024. There were also reports by neighbours that the last sight of her was the same year of September or October.
The officials revealed that Humaira’s electricity was cut in October because of her failure to pay bills, and no back-up power was available in her apartment. One official commented, “On the one hand, a person has likely died since the last payment of the utility bill and before the power was turned off, on the other hand, no candles or other source of light has been found, which further strengthens the theory.”
Other indicators were the fact that she had been missing for a very long time. Food within the apartment was stale, having gone past several months earlier, jars were rusty, and water pipes were dry and corroded. As investigators realized, there was no other unit on her floor, and that may have inhibited neighbours from detecting any suspicious odour. The odor was gone by the time some of those residents came back in February.
According to the very first reports made by police, Humaira had been refused to be claimed by her family. But her brother Naveed Asghar has later come to Karachi, where he will take custody of her remains and ensure that she will be given a good funeral.
