Indore, Madhya Pradesh: A new exercise is being done to control air pollution in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. After making the hotels of Indore tandoor free, the Municipal Corporation has decided that wood will not be used in the official bonfire program. Till now, during the cold wave in the city, the Municipal Corporation has been burning wood bonfires at more than 100 places. Now government bonfires will be lit here with electricity. A meeting of the committee was formed to stop air pollution in the city where this decision was taken!
The Divisional Commissioner of Indore reviewed the measures taken so far and called them insufficient. Other departments including Municipal Corporations, Transport, Electricity Companies, and Town and Country Planning have been asked to carry out exercises at their level to prevent air pollution. It was told in the meeting that farmers have started burning stubble around Indore as well. This causes pollution in the air. Farmers will be asked to stop these as well.
It was told in the meeting that the Municipal Corporation has made the city’s Sarafa, Meghdoot market furnace free. Apart from this, a tandoor is not being used in 448 restaurants. The Municipal Corporation will also not use the furnace in the government bonfire this year. Collector Ilaiah Raja T, corporator Pratibha Pal, and other officers were present in the meeting.
On the instructions of NGT, this committee has been formed to reduce air pollution in the city, but still, the situation of pollution in the city is like five years ago. The city ranks first in the country in cleanliness, but the air is polluted. This will be an exercise to stop air pollution. There will be regular checking of the pollution level of school buses and commercial vehicles. Oil companies will also provide two pollution centers each.
