MUMBAI: Anurag Basu’s musical romance, Metro… In Dino, is slowly making headway at the domestic box office, in spite of a poor opening and stiff competition. Following a steep fall on its opening Monday, the film registered a slight increase of collections on Tuesday, indicating a slow but sure recovery.
Metro… In Dino collected Rs 2.9 crore on Tuesday, an upgrade from its collection of Rs 2.5 crore on Monday. This is a big fall from its Sunday collection of Rs 7.25 crore, the highest single-day collection for the film so far. It opened on Friday with Rs 3.5 crore and crossed Rs 6 crore on Saturday.

The current domestic total box office collection of Metro… In Dino is Rs 22.15 crore. This helped the film cross the domestic lifetime earnings of Sonu Sood’s directorial venture Fateh (Rs 18 crore) and has now surpassed Kangana Ranaut’s period political thriller Emergency (Rs 20 crore).
But Metro… In Dino still lags behind last week’s big Hollywood offering, action-adventure thriller Jurassic World Rebirth, directed by Gareth Edwards. The film that captures the legacy of dinosaur thriller has been a strong competitor, taking a substantial portion of the Indian box office.

In Dineo shows encouraging trends over the weekend, clearly indicating that its target audience – urban centres – has responded positively to the film… However, the weekend total remains on the lower side. The weekend numbers could’ve been stronger in an open run, but the presence of two major #Hollywood films – #JurassicWorldRebirth and #F1TheMovie – along with the steady performance of the holdover title #SitaareZameenPar has resulted in a division of business”, read a tweet by famous film critic Taran Adarsh.
Despite the uphill battle, the marginal increase on Tuesday suggests that Metro… In Dino might be benefiting from positive word-of-mouth among its target audience. With its ensemble cast and unique narrative style, the film will need to maintain this momentum through the weekdays to register a respectable total in the coming days. The coming weekend will be crucial for the film’s long-term box office prospects as it seeks to carve out its niche amidst a crowded release schedule.
