Amit Sharma’s biopic, “Maidaan,” as a sports drama, struggles to pick up in box office collection despite appreciative reviews. This is the most illuminating figure in Ajay Devgn’s starrer films; collections on the first Monday of the release have dropped noticeably in theatres.
According to industry reports, after a promising start with a record-breaking single-day collection of Rs 6.4 crore on Sunday, “Maidaan” suffers a substantial 76.56% drop, earning only Rs 1.5 crore on Monday. The film’s total domestic nett collection now stands at Rs 23.5 crore.
Despite a similar decline, “Maidaan” lags behind its competitor, the action-packed “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan,” which secures a nett collection of Rs 2.5 crore in the domestic market on the same day. However, in the Hindi market, “Maidaan” only captured 9.99% From morning wake ups, which show only 6.65 % occupancy to the night period, which shows 12.28 % occupancy, slowly declining to 9.92% in the afternoon and 11.10% in the evening.
This marks the poorest performance for an Ajay Devgn film on its first Monday in recent history. Despite receiving less favourable reviews compared to “Maidaan,” Devgn’s films like “Shaitaan” (Rs 7.25 crore), “Bholaa” (Rs 4.5 crore), “Drishyam 2” (Rs 11.87 crore), “Thank God” (Rs 1.6 crore), and “Runway” (Rs 2.42 crore) have all fared better.
“Maidaan” struggles to maintain momentum despite its initial positive reception, indicating challenges in attracting audiences beyond the opening weekend. The film’s performance raises questions about its long-term sustainability at the box office and its ability to compete with other releases.
