Controversy is not letting popular YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia breathe easy as the Maharashtra government has put him in a difficult situation by ordering an official inquiry into his recent controversy. Minister of State for Culture Ashish Shelar directed the state’s cultural department to conduct a probe into the whole matter.
The controversy began after Allahbadia, who runs the YouTube channel BeerBiceps, made offensive comments about parents and sex in an irrepressed clip on comedian Samay Raina’s now-deleted YouTube show India’s Got Latent. The public complaints triggered widespread outrage over his comments. After allegations of vulgarity and indecency against him on a show where Allahbadia appeared as a judge in one of the episodes, the Maharashtra government ordered action.
Apart from the complaint against Allahbadia, complaints have been lodged against other YouTube shows too who have been working without the proper permission. Moreover, Minister Ashish Shelar ordered a comprehensive probe into such content and a high-level meeting to be chaired by him in the cultural department.
In the meantime, the Mumbai Police have beefed up their investigation and have called out Allahbadia for questioning in relation to his controversial remark. Initially asked to appear before the Khar police station on Thursday and failing to make it, his second summons has been issued for Friday. But when police teams from Mumbai and Assam went to his residence in Versova, the flat was locked.
The police resolved to ask Allahbadia about his comments, which caused a furor. The situation is being closely monitored by authorities, and further legal action may result in accordance with the results of the ongoing inquiry. The controversy unfolds as fans and critics wait to see how the case unfolds.
