Una Celma, the director of the film ‘Fragile Blood’ discussed the changing landscape of the filmmaking industry, specifically highlighting the increasing involvement of women. This conversation occurred during the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) where ‘Fragile Blood’ was showcased in the ‘Cinema of the World’ category. Following the premiere of her thought-provoking film, Celma engaged with delegates.

In relation, to the evolving dynamics within the film industry, Celma commented on how times are changing and there is a rise in women entering filmmaking compared to previous years. Her movie, ‘Fragile Blood explores not only abuse but also delves into psychological and sexual violence that women endure within domestic settings.

The inspiration for this film came from Celma’s interactions with women who shared their experiences with domestic violence both in professional environments and social gatherings. “I consistently heard stories from women about their encounters with domestic violence whether it was at work or, in social spaces. It led me to contemplate creating a film,” she clarified.

Celma emphasized the theme of the film ‘Fragile Blood at IFFI, highlighting that it delves into not only physical violence but also brings attention to the often disregarded psychological and sexual violence that women face.

In interviews, Celma pointed out that with laws and law enforcement, in place, domestic violence continues to be an issue, in society. The film serves as an exploration of this problem, presenting a thoughtful perspective that goes beyond superficial analysis.

‘Fragile Blood’ weaves a compelling narrative in a society where reality blurs with myth. The protagonist, Diana, grapples with societal norms in her codependent marriage with Igor. The film explores the delicate balance between familial responsibilities and personal autonomy, as Diana faces the challenging decision of prioritizing her daughter, Astra, or her husband, Igor. As the boundaries between illusion and reality blur, Diana is confronted with a pivotal choice, forcing her to evaluate whether it is too late to reshape her life.
