Kantara Chapter 1 is still making history after its festive release, and it is still performing well on its second day at the box office. The Rishab Shetty film did not slump mid-week as most films which are preceded by a holiday opening do, and is set to have an all-time opening weekend, with housefull crowds throughout Karnataka and elsewhere in India.
Kantara Chapter 1 grossed slightly short of 90 crore in the global market on its first day in theatres, which was boosted by the Dussehra holiday in India. The thrust was carried over to its second day, where domestic collections were ₹45 crore net, and the two-day domestic gross was ₹106.85 crore net (₹128.25 crore gross). These figures have already elevated Kantara Chapter 1 to become the highest-grossing Kannada movie of the year, surpassing the total lifetime earnings of Su From So of 92 crore net.
The movie has also fared well elsewhere, as it has grossed more than 2.5 million dollars on its initial two days abroad. This makes its global amount impressive 151 crore. The movie surpassedthe lifetime business of some recent major movies, such as Mirai (₹142 crore), Kesari Chapter 2 (₹144 crore), and Sky Force (₹150 crore). With the good word-of-mouth, Kantara Chapter 1 is going to cross the ₹200 crore mark on Saturday itself and is likely to cross the ₹300 crore mark by Monday or Tuesday.
The story of Kantara Chapter 1 is a prequel to the original Kantara, which was a sleeper hit, earning more than 400 crores all over the world on a small budget of 15 Crores. The film, which is a prequel to the original one by about one thousand years, is an exploration of rich cultural and historical stories that are specific to its setting. Rishab Shetty plays the lead again, as do Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah.
