Rishab Shetty’s long-awaited movie Kantara: Chapter 1 will release in theatres this Thursday, October 2, on the festive holiday of Dussehra. The film has built a massive hype in the country as a lead-up to the 2021 blockbuster Kantara. The first movie not only topped the box office in Karnataka, but it also attracted rave reviews in other parts of northern India, that have subsequently led to a big following that has now given the prequel tremendous hype.

Kantara: Chapter 1 pre-booking began on Sunday, only four days before the release, and the reception has been nothing less than spectacular. The movie recorded pre-sales of 5.7 crore within a span of less than 24 hours, with 1.7 lakh tickets already sold on the opening day. This is the speed that has already promised a greater debut than the original Kantara, which had made 2 crore in India way back in 2022.

What is more amazing is that, even three days before release, Kantara: Chapter 1 has already surpassed the advance booking of some of the other popular future releases, such as OG by Pawan Kalyan and others like the War by Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR. Neither movie had made the 5 crore pre-booking pre-mark at this stage. The movie is also leading the pack in pre-release sales over Yash’s KGF: Chapter 1. The 2019 Kannada film was the highest-grossing Kannada release in three years and the first film in the industry to reach 250 crore internationally.

With its size and the buzz around the same, Kantara: Chapter 1 should comfortably pass the 400-crore gross. Right now, the majority of the bookings are flowing in towards the Kannada version, though the collections in the Hindi market are likely to increase as additional screens open up during Monday and Tuesday.
