MUMBAI: Kajol’s highly anticipated supernatural thriller, ‘Maa’, has finally hit cinemas today, June 27th, generating a significant buzz across social media. Netizens have wasted no time in flooding platforms with their initial reactions, largely praising the film’s engaging storyline, impressive visual effects, and Kajol’s compelling portrayal of a mother battling dark forces.

Famous film critic, Taran Adarsh gave a three and a half star review to the movie. “A mother’s instinct versus the dark forces – #Maa blends emotions, horror, and mythology seamlessly… #Kajol delivers a knockout act… Watch it!”, he wrote on X.

The film delves into a chilling narrative rooted in the cursed village of Chandarpur, where forty years prior, a baby girl was sacrificed to a demon known as the Daitya, residing in a cursed tree. The plot centers on Ambika (Kajol) and Shuvankar (Indraneil Sengupta), who belong to this afflicted family, forced to offer their newborn girls to the demon. To protect their daughter, Shweta (Kherin Sharma), they have lived far away. However, Shuvankar’s sudden demise compels Ambika and Shweta to return to Chandarpur to sell their ancestral home, unknowingly drawing them back into the grip of the ancient curse.
