Mumbai: The Indian film industry is mourning the loss of veteran actor Junior Mehmood, who passed away on December 8, 2023, at the age of 67. He had been battling stomach cancer for several months.
Mehmood was born in Mumbai on June 29, 1956, into a family of film actors. His father, Mehmood Ali, was a renowned comedian who starred in numerous Bollywood films. Junior Mehmood made his acting debut as a child artist in the 1964 film “Gumnaam.”
He went on to act in over 250 films throughout his career, spanning five decades. Some of his most notable performances include “Caravan” (1971), “Andaaz Apna Apna” (1994), “Coolie No. 1” (1995), and “Hera Pheri” (2000). He was known for his comedic timing and versatility, and was able to portray a variety of characters with ease.
Mehmood was not only an actor, but also a producer and director. He produced films like “Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge” (1990) and “Saajan Chale Sasural” (1996), and directed the film “Khel” (1992).
