Mumbai: The past few weekends have been action-packed at the Indian box office with three major releases — Sunny Deol’s JaatAkshay Kumar’s Kesari Chapter 2, and Emraan Hashmi’s Ground Zero — vying for audience attention.

While all three films generated buzz, their first weekend box office performances paint a telling picture of audience preferences. Akshay Kumar’s Kesari Chapter 2 experienced a slight growth at the box office on its second Friday. On Day 8, the courtroom drama amassed Rs 4.15 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The film recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 14.9%.

Breaking it down – morning shows had 6.39%, afternoon shows witnessed 12.39%, evening shows clocked 13.65% and night shows peaked at 27.16%. With this, Kesari Chapter 2 breached the Rs 50 crore mark. The film’s total domestic collection now stands at Rs 50.25 crore, the report added.

Sunny Deol’s Jaat stormed the box office with a strong opening weekend, collecting ₹30.25 crore in its first three days. Boosted by massive single-screen appeal and positive word-of-mouth in rural belts, Jaat has so far outpaced its competitors comfortably. While Jaat clearly leads the box office race after the first weekend, Kesari 2 remains in strong contention with better weekday prospects due to urban multiplex audiences.

Despite starring a popular actor like Emraan Hashmi and focusing on a patriotic narrative, Ground Zero struggled at the ticket counters, managing to earn only around ₹3 crore across its opening weekend. Ground Zero will now rely heavily on word-of-mouth to pick up momentum and sustain a meaningful run in the coming days.
