Actor Abhishek Bachchan’s new movie by Shoojit Sircar, I Want To Talk, did not do well during its opening week at the box office in India. Some initial reports suggested that the slice-of-life drama could have grossed only ₹ 25 lakh nett on the opening day. The film released internationally by Rising Sun Films and Kino Works on November 22 did not create a grand stir. It collected only 7.44 % Hindi occupancy in total across India on Friday suggesting a relatively low demand.
In comparison, I Want To Talk made less than Abhishek’s other theatrical release with Ghoomer (2023), where the latter collected ₹85 lakh nett at the box office. Reminiscing the powerful story and including the star cast like Johny Lever, Ahilya Bamroo, Banita Sandhu, and Pearle Maaney, the film could not yield itself well.
In the movie, Abhishek acted for the character of Arjun, a man who was torn between the decision to have surgery and his angry relationship with his daughter. Interviewing a news agency about his experiences with his role, he said that he had to put on weight for the kind of role he was playing. “I can happily say that the things you will see in the poster are real and that I didn’t need any prosthetics to make that happen. It is very easy at my age to gain weight for a role but it is very difficult to lose that excess weight afterward. I’d advise against it.”
In the same interview, director Shoojit Sircar also disclosed that I Want To Talk is based on a real-life story, and there is substance and truth in the story. Nevertheless, since it is an emotional film that has Abhishek firmly into the role, the disappointment at the box office opening might make the continual flow of business a problem for the film. However, whether it can get a positive word of mouth in the coming days has still become a question.
