The controversy against Gangubai Kathiawadi is well underway. A Maharashtra MLA, Amin Patel has moved the Bombay HC against the use of the area’s name in the social flick directed by SLB. The plea urged the name should either be censored or deleted.
However, this is not the first time Gangubai faced controversy ahead of its release on Friday. Another resident of Kamathipura, Shraddha Surve filed a petition on the same lines.
The bench of Justice Gautam Patel and Madhav Jamdar said it would hear the petition on Wednesday.
Gangubai has also been facing humbug litigations from the adopted son of the former sex worker. The adopted son wants a stay order against the film. The reason being given that the film shows his mother as a sex worker. “Tragically a lot of women are sex workers and their children, though not pleased with the situation, are not mortified by the mother’s vocation either, he said”. Though SLB wasn’t available for the comment, a source close to him responded- “Gangubai’s son objects to his mother is portrayed as a sex worker. But she did spend a large part of her life in Asia’s biggest red light area Kamathipura. What was she doing there?”
Gangubai Kathiawada had a Berlin premiere on 18th February. Alia Bhatt in a White retro look took the crowd by storm with her epic Gangubai pose.
