Karwa Chauth is a Hindu festival celebrated by married women on the fourth day of the dark fortnight (Krishna Paksha) of the month of Kartika (October or November). It is one of the most important festivals for Hindu married women, who observe a strict fast from sunrise to moonrise for the well-being and longevity of their husbands.

The festival is named after Karva, an earthen pot that women use to offer water to the moon. It is believed that the goddess Parvati observed the Karwa Chauth fast to win back her husband, Lord Shiva. Since then, Hindu married women have been observing this fast to seek blessings for their husbands and a happy married life.

The festival begins early in the morning, with women getting up before sunrise and eating a pre-dawn meal called sargi. After this, they abstain from food and water until moonrise. During the day, women spend their time in prayer and religious activities. They also decorate their homes and hands with henna (mehendi) and wear traditional clothes.

Actress Rani Mukherjee too reached Anil’s Bungalow to take part in the festivities.

Newly married Bollywood couple Parineeti Chopra and Raghav Chadha celebrated their first Karwa Chauth. The actor-politician couple got married in September this year in Udaipur.

Bollywood actress Hansika Motwani celebrated her first Karwa Chauth with her husband Sohael Khaturiya. The couple tied the knot in a lavish wedding on December 4, 2022, and documented the entire wedding as a part of Disney+Hotstar series Love Shaadi Drama.

Marking the celebration of Karwa Chauth, Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif too celebrated the festival. Katrina looked gorgeous as she adorned a beautiful red saree and complimented her look with sindoor and mangalsutra.
