Mumbai: The high-flying heist comedy film ‘Crew,’ featuring the leading ladies of Bollywood – Kareena Kapoor Khan, Tabu, and Kriti Sanon – is experiencing a successful run at the box office. As of today, the film has inched closer to the coveted Rs 100 crore mark globally, according to an update shared by the film’s producers on Instagram.
‘Crew’ opened on March 29, 2024, and garnered positive audience response. The story revolves around three friends working as cabin crew members for a prominent airline. Their seemingly peaceful routine takes a dramatic turn when they become entangled in a smuggling operation.
Early estimates suggest the film has already crossed Rs 90 crore in worldwide collections. This is a significant achievement, especially considering the film’s primary target audience – women-centric comedies don’t always guarantee blockbuster status in India. However, ‘Crew’ seems to be defying expectations.
Industry analysts attribute the film’s success to several factors. Firstly, the powerful all-female lead cast boasts immense star power, attracting audiences eager to see the actresses share screen space. Secondly, the unique premise of a heist comedy set in the world of cabin crew piqued audience interest.
‘Crew’s performance is particularly impressive considering its competition. The Malayalam drama ‘Aadujeevitham’ released a day earlier and has also garnered strong box office collections. However, ‘Crew’ appears to be holding its own, particularly in the international market.
With a week two release still underway, ‘Crew’ has the potential to surpass the Rs 100 crore mark. This milestone would solidify the film’s success and further establish the marketability of female-led comedies in the Indian film industry.
