Mumbai: Prashanth Varma’s mythological superhero film ‘HanuMan’ performed well on its first day at the box office and better than Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi starrer Merry Christmas.

The film minted ₹11.91 crore net in India on its release day. HanuMan was released alongside Katrina Kaif starrer ‘Merry Christmas’. Merry Christmas managed to rake in ₹2.55 crore while HanuMan minted over 5 times on release day.

Prashanth Varma’s ambitious vision took flight, soaring high above box office expectations on the opening day of his mythological superhero film, “HanuMan.” This reimagining of the legendary monkey god as a contemporary hero enthralled audiences and minted an impressive ₹11.91 crore (approximately $1.43 million) in India alone.

Varma’s gamble on blending ancient mythology with modern superhero tropes paid off spectacularly. The film, starring Teja Sajja as a young man chosen by Lord Hanuman to wield his power, offered a visually stunning spectacle. Audiences were treated to breathtaking CGI sequences showcasing Hanuman’s iconic feats, seamlessly intertwined with a story rooted in Indian tradition and values.

“HanuMan” not only surpassed opening day collections of its rival, the Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi starrer “Merry Christmas,” but also outperformed established regional hits like “Guntur Kaaram.” This resounding success signifies a potential shift in audience preferences, embracing fresh interpretations of familiar tales.

Several factors contributed to the film’s strong showing. Varma’s reputation as a director known for innovative storytelling garnered initial interest. The casting of Sajja, a rising Telugu star, resonated with younger audiences. Additionally, the film’s high production value, boasting state-of-the-art visual effects, attracted viewers seeking a larger-than-life cinematic experience.

However, the true heart of “HanuMan” lies in its emotional core. The film explores themes of faith, responsibility, and overcoming personal struggles, all woven into the narrative of a young man grappling with his newfound powers. This relatable human angle, coupled with the awe-inspiring visuals, likely struck a chord with viewers across demographics.

While it’s still early days, “HanuMan”‘s opening day performance suggests a potential blockbuster in the making. The film’s success could pave the way for further exploration of Indian mythology in a contemporary superhero context, opening doors for a new wave of storytelling. Whether “HanuMan” sustains its momentum in the coming weeks remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the monkey god has made a triumphant entry into the superhero pantheon, leaving audiences wanting more.
