Congratulatory messages poured in Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi entered the 100 crore club after running for almost two weeks now. On Thursday, Alia celebrated the film’s entry into the club with a picture where she treats herself with a (vegan) burger and fries. Sharing the picture on Instagram the titular character wrote, – Happy century to Gangubai & happy vegan burger + fry to Alia Thank you for all the love.
The film received raving reviews from fans and critics alike. The film on its 14th day clocked Rs 102 crore at the Indian box office.
Under the directorial ship of SLB, Gangubai initially faced disparate humbug litigations. The movie was taken to the Bombay HC, where petitioners like the adopted son of Gangubai, Maharashtra MLA Amin Patel and Shraddha Surve of Kamathipura demanded the name of the leading lady to be deleted or censored from the title. Gangubai Kathiawadi is based on a chapter from S Hussain Zaidi’s Mafia Queens of Mumbai and stars Alia Bhatt as the eponymous character, a powerful and respected madame from Kamathipura in the 1960s. Ajay Devgn, Parth Samthaan, Seema Pahwa and Shantanu Maheshwari have been roped in to play crucial roles in the film. Jayantilal Gada bankrolled the crime.
