Nashik, Maharashtra: The family of the Nightingale of India finally bid farewell today. On Thursday, the ashes of the legendary singer were immersed in the scared Pavitra Ramkund on the banks of the Godavari River.
The veteran singer’s nephew Adityanath Mangeshkar and other relatives were present at the ceremony. A short prayer was also performed which was attended by close friends and family.
Lata Mangeshkar breathed her last on 6th February after suffering multi-organ failure. The legendary vocalist was admitted to the Breach Candy Hospital on January 8th after she presented mild symptoms for COVID-19. She was later diagnosed with pneumonia. Lata Didi had been on episodic visits to the hospital in the past three years. Dr Partit Samdani who has been treating her for so long said, she had a smile on her face until her last breath.
The nation was taken by shock after the demise of the soulful voice. Lata Mangeshkar originally belonged to Bhopal and was cremated with full state honours in Mumbai. Tributes poured in from all industries. Actors who have had been in close relation with the veteran singer expressed deep grief. PM Modi anguished by the news, took to Twitter saying- She leaves a void in our nation that cannot be filled.
