Mumbai: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday conducted widespread searches across fifteen locations in connection with the alleged Mithi River desilting scam, including the residence of Bollywood actor Dino Morea in Bandra, Mumbai. The fraud is suspected to have caused a significant loss of ₹65 crore to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

The simultaneous raids, executed in Mumbai and Kochi, targeted over 15 premises. Among the locations under scrutiny were the residences of Dino Morea and his brother, as well as premises belonging to various contractors and alleged middlemen believed to be involved in the multi-crore scam. The ED’s investigation is being carried out under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), signaling a serious probe into financial irregularities.

This development follows recent questioning of Dino Morea by the Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) concerning the same case. The EOW had previously registered a First Information Report (FIR) against 13 individuals, including several civic officials and contractors, for their alleged involvement in the fraudulent desilting project.

The Mithi River desilting scam pertains to alleged irregularities and corruption in contracts awarded for the crucial desilting work of the Mithi River, vital for preventing floods in Mumbai. The ED’s involvement indicates a focus on tracing the money trail and identifying assets acquired through the proceeds of this alleged crime. The raids are expected to unearth more evidence and potentially lead to further arrests in the coming days as the investigation intensifies.
